Climate

Tolmin typically experiences excellent paragliding weather in August.  Historical weather data suggests that we can expect good thermic conditions, light winds (usually west) and moderate cloud bases of around 2,000 metres.  Experience confirms that we can expect to fly 5 tasks during the week at this time of year.

Temperatures are likely be very comfortable, with daytime temperatures typically around 25C and night-time temperatures no lower than about 15C.

Winds in the valleys are usually light.  Towards the south of this flying arena they tend to blow form the south, especially later in the afternoon. Towards the north they tend to blow west or northwest.  Launch winds are generally very light (expect forward launching conditions), although they can get stronger in the late afternoon.

Sun protection is definitely recommended.   Whilst it’s likely to be shorts and T-shirt weather during the day, expect it to be cold up at base and cold at night (we’re in the mountains!)
